On Sunday 17 May 2026, nearly 100 OKS returned to King’s to celebrate a remarkable milestone - the 90th anniversary of Marlowe House. Guests arrived in excellent spirits, eager to reconnect with one another and to honour nine decades of history.
The day began with tours of the House, led by current pupils, offering returning OKS the chance to revisit familiar spaces while seeing how Marlowe has evolved. Several OKS commented that desks had been replaced by cosier furnishings!
Following the tours, guests gathered on the Green Court lawn for a drinks reception, enjoying glorious views of Canterbury Cathedral in the spring sunshine. Jude Lowson (Head), formally welcomed everyone back, reflecting on the strength of the Marlowe community and the lasting importance of house life at King’s.
The current Housemaster of Marlowe, George Harrison, then addressed guests, offering insight into the House today. As part of his welcome, he interviewed three current pupils - Barnaby (Remove), Archie (6b), and Ismael (6b) - about their experiences at King’s and in Marlowe. Speaking with confidence and sincerity, they reflected on their friendships, the rhythm of daily life, and what makes Marlowe distinctive.
Guests then moved to lunch in the Green Court marquee. The afternoon featured speeches from former Housemasters David Reid (1982-1994), Roy White (1994-2006), and Simon Anderson (2006-2017), each sharing reflections and anecdotes from their time at Marlowe. In a particularly lively moment, Simon Anderson invited contributions from the floor, prompting present OKS to share their own memories - many of which fondly captured the mischief and camaraderie that defined their years in the House.
Alongside the celebrations, guests enjoyed a fascinating exhibition of artefacts from the Paul Pollak (MO 1941-44, Common Room 1950-88) Collection, thoughtfully curated by School Archivist Peter Henderson.
With fantastic weather throughout the day, the atmosphere remained vibrant and joyful. As the reunion drew to a close, it was clear that Marlowe House continues to hold a deeply special place in the lives of its former pupils. The 90th anniversary was not only a celebration of the past, but also a powerful reminder of the friendships and shared identity that continue to unite the Marlowe community across the generations.
