On Sunday 8 March, more than 120 OKS returned to King’s to celebrate a very special milestone - the 50th Anniversary of Broughton and Tradescant Houses. Guests arrived in wonderful spirits, ready to reconnect with old friends and celebrate the history of both Houses.
The event began with House tours, giving our returning OKS the chance to wander through familiar spaces and discover what has changed and what remains reassuringly the same. From pointing out former study bedrooms to recalling house traditions, the tours highlighted just how formative both houses have been for generations of pupils.
After the tours, everyone made their way to the Dovecote Lawn for drinks, where the cool March air couldn’t dampen the atmosphere. It was here that guests enjoyed a series of heartfelt speeches.
The Head, Jude Lowson, welcomed everyone back, sharing updates from the School. Anna Eropkina, current Head of Broughton, spoke warmly about the spirit of Broughton today, its friendships, its supportiveness, and the sense of belonging that continues to define House life. George Stringer, current Head of Tradescant, offered a touching reflection on the meaning of Tradescant’s legacy, sharing a moment that resonated strongly across both houses:
“Tradescant has always been more than a building. It’s a community woven together by friendships that cross year groups, interests, and backgrounds.”
His words captured a sentiment that applies equally to Broughton and Tradescant: that what truly makes a house special is its people, the friendships formed, the support offered, and the memories carried long after school days end.
Guests then moved to St Augustine’s Undercroft for a delicious lunch. The reunion was made even more meaningful by the return of several former Housemasters and Housemistresses, who were warmly greeted by their former pupils. Those attending included:
As the afternoon drew to a close, it was clear that the spirit of both Broughton and Tradescant remains vibrant and deeply cherished. The 50th Anniversary was not only a celebration of the past but also a reminder of the lasting bonds, shared stories, and warm sense of community that continue to unite both houses across the generations.
The next house reunion is for Marlowe House which takes place on Sunday 17 May 2026 - tickets are selling fast and can be booked here. In the Autumn, we'll also be holding a reunion for Meister Omers on Sunday 20 September 2026 - book early here.
