The King's Mile Kicks Off with a Spectacular First Race

On Sunday 29 June 2025, a brand-new event made its debut during King's Week. The King's Mile is a unique running race that starts in the beautiful surroundings of the Green Court, winds through the north side of the Cathedral Precincts, takes a route through the heart of Canterbury city, and finishes with Canterbury Cathedral as the grand finale.

The chipped race was a partnership between The King's School Canterbury and Canterbury Cathedral, supporting two local charities: Catching Lives and the Social Justice Network.

We were honoured to welcome Matt Stonier (CY/MR 2015-20), GB and English Commonwealth Games athlete, back to King's as the official starter for the race.

The race comprised an elite’s race with top local talent with a number of waves based on ability and finally a family fun run or walk which included babies, toddlers and their buggies. The elite race culminated in local runner Jamie Keir (Invicta East Kent AC) finishing first in 4:27 with Ashford’s Louis Small in second place with 4:29, the female winner in the elite race was Amy Seagar who finished in 5:32.

It was also good to see so many members of the King's Association community register. From teachers and staff to pupils and OKS, the race welcomed participants of all ages. For our OKS runners, it was a unique opportunity to run around the School grounds once more! All runners received a beautifully designed Canterbury-themed medal and enjoyed refreshments on the Green Court afterwards.

You can view the race results here.

Thank you to everyone who ran and helped make the event such a success. We look forward to building momentum and welcoming even more runners from the King's Association community next year!
