A message from the Head, Jude Lowson:

It’s been a wonderful half term, one full of learning, discovery and no shortage of courage. One moment recently captured all of that. Our Shell pupils took part in the Global Perspectives final earlier this half term, having spent several weeks researching issues facing a range of countries including Chile, South Africa, the Philippines and Australia. The standard was superb, with 16 pupils delivering thoughtful, well-researched, and confident presentations to a packed Malthouse Theatre on topics as diverse as CIA inference in Chile to educational inequality in the Philippines, and from our winner, the true environmental and social cost of avocados.

But what stood out most wasn’t just the quality of the presentations, but the positive attitude of the entire Shell cohort. When one pupil froze with nerves on stage, the room fell completely silent, not with impatience, but with empathy. Then a voice called out from the audience: “You’ve got this - you can do it!” The theatre filled with cheers and encouragement, giving her just enough courage to begin again, and finish brilliantly. In a busy term this was just a brief moment, but one which says a great deal about the values we hope to nurture here.
