Congratulations to Lucas Lacamp (GR 2014-19) who was selected to represent USA in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
Lucas was a member of the USA men's rugby 7s team, finishing eighth place.
Lucas said on Instagram:
“Unbelievable honour to be at the Paris Olympics! Would never be in this position without the incredible support I’ve had throughout my life. Can’t wait to get started!”
In the first match against on Wednesday 24 July, Lucas scored a fantastic try against France. The try was featured on BBCs 'tries of the day' compilation (3:30mins in):
The second pool match was against two-time Olympic champions, Fiji. A challenging match, Fiji dominated and took the win with a 12-38 score. The final pool match of the week was against Uruguay. The USA Eagle rugby blog said:
"Lucas Lacamp jetted away to his own five points after a loose Uruguay ball was picked up. The USA's dominance and control gave them the win 33-17, ensuring their spot in the Olympic quarterfinals."
USA headed into the knockout rounds and played against Australia. A tough match resulted in Australia taking the win 0-18. The USAs next match against Ireland, playing for 5th place, ended in a loss.
The final match for seventh place, USA faced Argentina. Argentina was fast on defence, giving them the win 0-18.
Captain of the team, Kevon Williams said:
"Going into LA 2028, I hope and pray that team tells me what it feels like to win a medal. I think that the program is going in a great direction. We have nice young talent, we have Lucas Lacamp, Orrin Bizer, a lot of boys back at home who have been training and waiting on this moment."
