OKS & King's Association News |
On Sunday 5 October, we welcomed 80 OKS back to King's to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Luxmoore House.
Originally a boys' house, Luxmoore House was founded in 1945, initially located on New Dover Road. The house relocated in 1980, welcoming girls for the first time, before becoming a full girls' boarding house in 1991.
The day began with tours of the current Luxmoore House, guided by friendly Luxmoore pupils who showed OKS guests around. The drinks reception followed in the house garden, where Dr. James Wilper introduced himself as the current Luxmoore Housemaster. We then heard from the Head of House, Zara, who thanked everyone for coming and suggested that Luxmoore was - and still is - the best house. Guests then made their way to the Main Dining Hall to enjoy a two-course Sunday lunch. Jude Lowson, Head, gave a short speech sharing updates from the School and thanking OKS for being part of the supportive King’s community.
We were fortunate to be joined by former Luxmoore housemistress Fiona Tennick (Common Room 1981-2005), who had spent the weekend in Canterbury reconnecting with former colleagues and pupils. She brought along a treasured box of photographs and spent a happy time reminiscing with her former pupils, sharing memories as they looked through them together. Many OKS were also happy to see Karen Pears (Former Luxmoore Matron 1998-2019), whose presence brought back many cherished memories.
Thank you to everyone who joined to celebrate 80 years of Luxmoore House. We hope you had a wonderful time and enjoyed the day as much as we did.
