At the weekend, we were honoured to gather members of the King’s community for a truly special Summer Garden Party in the beautiful gardens of Doddington Place.
Kindly hosted by Charter Awards Campaign Group member and King’s parents, Richard and Amicia Oldfield, the afternoon brought together OKS, parents and friends, all in support of our transformational bursary campaign, The Charter Awards.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the gardens in full bloom, it was a truly fitting occasion - combining glorious surroundings, warm company and a shared commitment to supporting the School and the opportunities created through The Charter Awards.
Guests were welcomed with drinks and canapés beneath magnificent yew hedges more than 100 years old, before enjoying a guided tour of the gardens in full bloom, led by Richard and Amicia themselves. Matt Thornby, Assistant Head, also joined us to share a personal update on the Awards and to underline why boarding remains so central to life at King’s.
We are hugely grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to such a memorable occasion. Our sincere thanks go, in particular to Richard and Amicia Oldfield for their generous hospitality.
“My first Housemistress described running a boarding house like putting on a comfortable old coat each September. That feeling is very much why I went into boarding, and why, 27 years later, I am now Head of Boarding. That sense of warmth, normality, safety, and freedom is exactly what we strive to provide for our Charter Award holders - the King’s experience we all know so well.” Matt Thornby, Assistant Head (Boarding)
