Robert Rose Society Members' Lunch 2025

Thank you for your support.

On Sunday 18th May 2025, on a magnificent if slightly chilly Green Court, members of King’s legacy club, the Robert Rose Society, came together across the different Houses and decades to celebrate their shared connection to King’s.

We were delighted to be joined by over 40 of our members and friends, as well as the Head and Society chairman, Richard Ashworth (SH 1960-64). Tom, our Captain of School, also took a well-deserved rest from revising to share some of what King’s means to him.

We often make a point of mentioning our location, surrounding, facilities and cathedral setting, which are, of course, amazing. I have loved all these aspects but even more important to me from that young Shell to the 6a pupil of today is that I have always felt part of something, part of a community, and part of an extended family.

There is what I call the natural ‘buzz’ within this special place, and it is something I think is underestimated. It’s how pupils and staff interact with each other, how a kindness and consideration permeate through everything we do. Whether that’s in the classroom, cheering on a sports team, attending concerts to support musicians, discussions in the dining hall, or joking around with the cleaners in the boarding house. King’s is one of the most prestigious schools in the country, the world even, but it is not at all elitist or self-centred. To me it has always felt like home.

I think if I had to sum up my experience in a few words, which would probably be echoed by my fellow pupils, I would say that life at King’s has been a full and fulfilling one. It is incredibly special to be part of this amazing school.

Thank you to everyone who joined us - we are so grateful for your friendship and support.

The mission of the Robert Rose Society is to reach out to those whose lives have been touched and inspired by King’s. All our members, united by their faith in the school and the belief that the education we provide can and does transform lives, have designated gifts in their will to support King’s beyond their lifetime. In doing so, they shape the school for the future and ensure that we are able to stay true to our mission for the next generation. We are enormously grateful to them for their support.
