This year, Farms for City Children is celebrating its 50th anniversary, marking half a century since the charity was founded by Sir Michael Morpurgo (GL 1957–62) and Lady Clare Morpurgo.
Farms for City Children was founded with a simple yet powerful vision: to give children the chance to discover the joy of spending time in nature and to understand that they belong to a wider world. Since welcoming its first visitors in Devon 50 years ago, the charity has helped more than 105,000 children and young people grow happier, healthier and more connected to nature through unforgettable stays on its farms.
To conclude its 50th-anniversary celebrations, a special Christmas concert will be held at the Royal Albert Hall. Sir Michael has reached out to us and would love to see lots of OKS, pupils, parents and friends of The King’s School Canterbury there.
A Christmas Story in Concert
Sunday 13 December 2026
This Christmas, discover a re-telling of the nativity in this heartwarming, carol-filled adventure based on Sir Michael Morpurgo's beloved book, On Angel Wings.
On Christmas night, a shepherd family receives an extraordinary visit from the Angel Gabriel. When their youngest daughter, Hannah, is drawn into an unexpected adventure, she embarks on a journey of wonder and hope. Guided by the Angel Gabriel, Hannah discovers the true spirit of Christmas.
Relive this magical story and sing along to some of your family’s favourite carols from Ding Dong Merrily On High, to Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the National Youth Choir and a cast of actors.
Sir Michael says:
"This was my adaptation of the Nativity story. It will be performed with full orchestra and choirs. And the drama of the story will be going on before our eyes!
Any OKS would be hugely welcome. The concert of course will be contributing to the fundraising efforts at Farms for City Children throughout the year. All OKS more than welcome. Look forward to seeing any present students, staff and families, as well as rather older OKS like me!"
