About the Book

Runaway Joe is a non-fiction story about one of the oldest, coldest cases in the FBI's books: a man accused of first degree murder in upstate New York in 1967. Joe Maloney escaped custody and fled to Ireland where he lived under a fake identity, rising to the top of Irish aristocracy and the film industry. In the mid-1980's, following a failed extradition, he escaped again. Runaway Joe is based on Pavel's hit podcast series with RTE (Ireland's national broadcaster). For the book, he tracked the fugitive across continents. Runaway Joe is published by Eriu Books in Ireland and Bonnier in the UK.
