In 2016 Tom Hunt (SH 2011-16) ran Lands’ End to John O’Groats. The equivalent of 38 marathons in 30-days raising £20k for the ME Association. Tom’s motivation was deeply personal: to show support and gratitude to his Housemaster Major Adam Vintner, and to raise funds for the ME Association, as his father has lived with the illness for many decades. In a fitting tribute, Major Vintner joined Tom for the final 17 miles into John O’Groats.
This year for the first time the school now has the “Action for ME” as its Charity of the Term nominated by next years Captain of School, Bea, due to her own family association with this illness.
To show their support, the Peru 2026 Trek Team will be undertaking a 25-mile sponsored walk from Canterbury to Margate (via Whitstable) on Monday 23rd June 2025, aiming to raise additional funds for Action for ME.
While replicating Tom’s 30-day marathon challenge would be a step too far during term time, this is a meaningful cause and a significant post-GCSE challenge.
Good luck to the pupils taking part, and we look forward to sharing an update after the walk!
