The Crypt Choir of The King’s School Canterbury, renowned for its vibrant performances of choral masterpieces, recently took their musical talents to an unexpected venue—a rollercoaster at Chessington World of Adventures. Under the direction of Will Bersey, the choir performed on the thrilling ride to mark the launch of the park’s Winter’s Tail event, showcasing their unique blend of tradition and innovation.
Now, the choir is set to bring their musical magic to a more conventional yet equally meaningful setting: a special concert at St Mary’s Church Wingham in support of Sounding Out, a charitable initiative dedicated to providing music lessons for young people who otherwise lack access. The event promises an evening of exceptional choral music and a celebration of the transformative power of song.
The performance will take place on Friday 2 May at St Mary the Virgin Church, Wingham, Canterbury. To purchase tickets please click here.
Supporting Music Education with Sounding Out
Sounding Out is a community-focused music programme launched by The King’s School Canterbury in September 2019. The initiative offers free orchestral instrument lessons to children from local primary schools, aiming to counteract the decline of classical music education among young people in the UK.
Supported by the School and generous benefactors, Sounding Out provides students with instruments to take home, along with essential resources such as sheet music and music bags. Each session includes both instrumental instruction and group musicianship classes, fostering a thriving community of young musicians. The programme also creates opportunities for participants to collaborate with King’s School pupils, reinforcing the joy and communal spirit of making music together.
This upcoming concert at St Mary’s Church is a testament to the power of music to inspire and uplift. Attendees will not only enjoy an evening of breathtaking choral performances but also contribute to an initiative that nurtures the next generation of musicians.
For those passionate about music education and the arts, this event is not to be missed. Join us in celebrating the extraordinary work of the Crypt Choir and the life-changing impact of Sounding Out.
