This term, the Harvey Science Society at King's have welcomed back speakers from our extended King's community. Both talks took place in the new Rausing Science Centre, located in the Mint Yard, which opened earlier in 2024 after a five-year construction period.

Dr Jonathan Allday (former Head of Science and Teacher of Physics) returned in November to discuss how movies have portrayed science, particularly physics, on the big and small screen. Students, from Shells to 6a, were treated to a historical journey from early SciFi classic films all the way through to the most recent blockbusters of Tenet and Interstellar.

In December, it was Professor Sarah Gurr (SH 1974-76)'s turn to return and deliver a talk. She spoke about how her journey into studying fungi was fostered during her time at King’s and beyond,  the variety and usefulness of fungi, as well as their impacts on the current challenges surrounding food security. This was interspersed with a few anecdotes about her time in School House and the enduring friendships she has made.

On behald of the King's Science Department, the Development Office would like to extend our thanks to Jonathan and Sarah for delivering these fantastic talks to pupils!
