Pelham Higgins (LN 1986-91) is the OKS Representative in Japan.

I was in Linacre with a great group of people from September 1986 until July 1991. Indirectly I had followed in my family's OKS footsteps because my mother’s brother had attended The King’s School Parramatta, Australia, before medalling as a single sculler at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. As fate would have it, at the very next Olympic Games to be held in Australia a fellow Linacre boy in Fred Scarlett (we also attended the same prep school) would go one step further with the Great Britain men’s eight at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

4 July 1991 was an extremely emotional last day for me at King’s that marked the end of the English chapter of my life. With a very heavy heart I returned home to “British” Hong Kong which was home until my father’s retirement from Cathay Pacific. In early 1992 the Hong Kong chapter of my life also came to an end when my family and I relocated to sunny Brisbane, Australia.

I studied at the University of Queensland where one of my majors was Japanese and also competed as an Australian national level swimmer, including the selection trials for the 1994 Commonwealth Games and 1998 World Championships. Through swimming I established ties with Waseda University in Tokyo and spent about two years in Japan after graduating.

After completing post-graduate studies in Sydney while working as a town planner, work pulled me back to Japan in 2005 where I have been ever since. I am now an investment manager for an Australian real estate company specializing in industrial/logistics in Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia. I often travel within the APAC region but rarely get back to Hong Kong unfortunately.

I live in Tokyo with my wife and two children. Whilst I go back to Australia quite often, it pains me to admit that I have only ever been back to Europe twice since leaving school in 1991…
