Representative Profiles |
Melanie Roddam, née Cumber (WL 1990-95), is the OKS Representative in the Cayman Islands.
As one of the first girls to join The King’s School in 1990, I started as a boarder in Walpole. I followed in the family's OKS footsteps, including my father, Mervyn Cumber, uncles Nigel Cumber and Peter Gibbs, and brother Marcus Cumber. After my attendance, the next generation started with Bijou Forget attending 6th form during COVID-19.
After school, I studied Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. I have worked in various advertising and design agencies and, in 2000, established my marketing and publishing agency. Currently, I publish a bi-annual luxury property, lifestyle, and design magazine, REALLIFE Caribbean www.reallifecaribbean.com, and handle various design and marketing projects for international and local businesses. Over the last 24 years, I've taken on multiple roles within my agency, primarily as the creative director and publisher. However, I also take on designing, art directing, writing, creating content, editing, accounting, and even making deliveries with a coffee in hand when needed (it's a small island!). Due to my magazine’s client base, I qualified as a CIREBA real estate agent at Azure Realty Cayman. So, if you are considering moving to Cayman or want to invest in a growing market, I am happy to help.
As a third-generation Caymanian, my family has loved the lifestyle in the Cayman Islands since the early 1960s. My son, Toby, was born here in 2012 and currently attends high school with plans to attend Kings. My parents and siblings have also always lived in the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands offers an excellent work-life balance within a friendly community, solid infrastructure, various activities for all ages, a vibrant social life or peaceful relaxation retreats and a delicious range of restaurants. It also provides many fantastic opportunities, particularly in the financial and legal industries.
I can usually be found on a boat on the waters of North Sound or relaxing on Seven Mile Beach on weekends.
