Brian Mumford, Head of Sailing at King's, reports on the OKS v. King's Sailing Race.
King's Sailing hosted the inaugural OKS v. King's Sailing Race at Westbere on Sunday 22 March 2026. In a moderate chilly breeze, the OKS raced against 3 pupil teams from King's: King's Blue, King's Silver and King's Gold. 12 races took place in a round robin format with each team racing against all other teams twice.
Although the OKS were vastly more experienced, the King's Sailors kept them honest, with King's Blue and King's Gold just missing out on a win each against the OKS; a couple of quick tactical decisions making the difference.
Ultimately the OKS took the inaugural OKS Cup with a tie for 2nd between King's Blue & King's Gold and King's Silver in 4th. At the prizegiving, Sailing Captains Daniel Dittrich (Galpin's House) and Athena Cox (Walpole House) presented the OKS team with the OKS Cup and The King's Sailing Burgee.
A thoroughly enjoyable day for all taking part, with everyone looking forward to the next head-to-head in 2027.
The OKS v King’s sailing race has become a regular annual event. If you’d like to join the OKS team next year, please get in touch with the OKS Office at community@kings-school.co.uk.
