OKS & King's Association News |
Trajan Majomi (TR 2020-24), James Bonney (SH 2019-24) and Alistair Green (SH 2019-24) are three OKS friends embarking on a journey to Ukraine. They hope to gain support from many OKS, parents and members of the King's Association. Trajan writes:
All three of us have been keeping up with the war since it started, and have been horrified by the reality that the Ukrainian people have had to endure for over three years. When discussing what could be done to help, we quickly realised that fundraising and then donating to an existing charity, while of course a great option, would not be the most effective use of people's donations. It is after discussing options with our Ukrainian friends that the donation of a medical vehicle was suggested - a goal that aligned with our capabilities as well as our ethics.
This project is entirely grassroots. We will be purchasing, driving and donating the car ourselves directly to the military. We have a contact who will take the car to the front line. We will be entirely transparent with what the fundraised money is being spent on by providing receipts for anyone to access. The military contact is also completely trusted.
We are really motivated by the fact that our efforts will hopefully culminate in one of the most effective and direct methods of charity towards Ukrainian defence efforts. I am also half Ukrainian and spent three years living in Kharkiv when I was younger, so this mission is in large part motivated by my personal connection to the conflict.
- Trajan
We will be writing a travel log, complete with photos, throughout our journey to give an authentic glimpse of what life is like on the ground in Ukraine. Anyone who wishes to access this can do so at our instagram: @vanandaplan. Access to the travel log will be shared there and delivered via Substack.
If you would like to support Trajan, James and Alistair by making a donation, please visit their donation page here: https://donorbox.org/vanandaplan
