Football Fans and Climate Change

by Katie Cross, née Redstone (BR 1997-2003)

Katie is the Founder of Pledgeball, a charity that rallies football fans to tackle climate change. Founded in 2019, Pledgeball came about initially through Katie’s love of football and wish to address climate change. Now Pledgeball works with partners including Bristol City FC, Birmingham County FA, the Football Supporters’ Association and Juan Mata’s Common Goal.

Pledgeball’s imminent projects include: work around the next men’s and women’s World Cups with Spirit of Football, with whom Katie presented in the UNFCCCs Action Hub at COP26; impact assessment with research group Climate Outreach; integration of Pledgeball into the Southern Combination Football League and partnership implementation with the Football Supporters’ Association.
