From life-changing bursaries and a century of cadet adventures to exciting new traditions taking shape across the School, the latest Robert Rose Society newsletter is full of stories that showcase the enduring spirit of King's.

Inside this edition, you'll hear from our new Society Chair, Kate Chernyshov (SH 1984-86), discover how gifts in wills are helping talented young people access a King's education through The Charter Awards, and explore more than 100 years of mud, maps and camaraderie in the CCF.

You'll also find updates from the Precincts, including Mitchinson's historic House Cup victory and a look ahead to two major milestones on the horizon: the centenaries of the OKS Association and Junior King's School.

As the 2025-26 academic year drew to a close in the Cathedral at the service of Commemoration of Benefactors, we were once again reminded of the extraordinary continuity of generosity towards the School. As names of the benefactors were listed, we listened to a 1400 year history stretching from St Augustine in the seventh century right through to Paul Pollak in the twenty-first century.

Few of us may expect our own names will be added to that list. (The School Archivist Peter Henderson has strict rules on the addition of any names). Our gifts will be given in the expectation that the beneficiaries’ education and growth, and perhaps their own gratitude and future generosity will be sufficient reward.

The service was an opportunity for the congregation to reflect again on the sheer optimism, energy and boundless opportunities the King’s pupils have in their grasp. Prayers, led by the pupil Chapel Wardens, showed us that these teenagers have, in addition to their academic grades, musical skills and sporting achievements, a sense of place and belonging, and a genuine feeling of gratitude towards those who have contributed to their time at School.

The choices we make today will matter to those who follow us, shaping their experiences as they put on their wing collars and begin their own King's story. On their behalf, thank you for including a gift to King’s in your will, and for playing your own part in the future of this remarkable School. It is a privilege to recognise you for the difference you make.
